School Psychologist - Middle School

The Pinnacle School is seeking a full-time school psychologist to fill a position beginning in July 2019 or the start of the 2019-2020 school year. We are looking for a skilled, collaborative, dynamic individual with experience in individual and group counseling, social cognition, parent consultation, behavioral management strategies, and psychological testing.

Job Responsibilities include:

  • Implement collaborative problem solving, cognitive behavioral techniques, and relational approaches during students’ weekly counseling sessions

  • Hold weekly 1:1 and/or group sessions with students for counseling, social-emotional check-ins, and social cognition

  • Administer and interpret cognitive, social-emotional, and behavioral assessments. Complete psychological test reports based on test data.

  • Create SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and timely) goals to monitor and track student progress

  • Actively collaborate on the development and implementation of students’ IEPs; review and discuss students issues, profiles, and progress with team members

  • Identify at-risk students and school vulnerabilities (e.g., monitoring students’ harmful behaviors and providing consistent communication with administrators, parents, and outside providers)

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, paraprofessionals, other related service personnel, and outside providers in order to review and discuss student progress

  • Maintain consistent communication with Head of School, Education Director, and other administrators regarding student issues and concerns

  • Provide case management for 2-4 students in addition to counseling caseload. The case manager is the point of communication for parents and outside providers regarding student updates, concerns, and parent-school collaboration.

  • Provide pivotal role in the development and implementation of school social cognition program

Requirements include:

  • Doctorate or Master’s degree in School Psychology or related field (School Social worker, LCSW, School Counselors, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapists with school experience and appropriate SDE certifications)

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with children in a therapeutic or educational setting

  • Experience and interest working with students in a special education setting

  • Experience with executive functions coaching, social skill development, dialectical behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and relational approaches

Teaching opportunities

Candidates must have a demonstrated passion for teaching and a collaborative style to work as a team prepared to meet the individualized needs of each student. A strong candidate will have experience with differentiated learners and instruction, special education, writing IEPs, and coaching students with special needs and daily challenges. Bachelors degrees are required. Preference for teachers with master's degrees and/or degrees and certifications in special education.

Special Education Teachers

The Pinnacle School seeks special education teachers with a Connecticut Special Education certifications.  

The successful candidate will meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience teaching.

  • Experience educating students who require differentiated instruction and may have emotional and/or learning challenges.

  • Must hold a CT certification and CT special education certification.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Substitute Teachers (Independent Contractor)

The substitute teacher is responsible for the continuation of all learning activities in the classroom. Job duties include interacting with children during program times and ensuring Health and Safety of children at all times. Substitute Teachers are also expected to communicate with the classroom teacher they are replacing, informing them of their progress in the assigned lessons and other issues that occurred in the classroom in the teacher's absence.

You will work with a variety of students, in collaboration with our  dynamic team of special education teachers, speech language pathologists, occupational therapists, behaviorists, school counselors and clinicians.

 Instructional Planning, Teaching and Practices:

  • Plan, prepare and execute lesson plans; create lessons that support each student’s learning style and academic capabilities

  • Provide clear goals and objectives for each student;  create written reports and report cards for each student

  • Teach content and skills to assigned students utilizing common core aligned curriculum and approved courses of study

  • Develop strategies for maintaining a classroom environment conducive to effective learning and utilize effective teaching methods; employ a variety of instructional techniques appropriate to the maturity, interests, and needs of  each student

  • Identify need for diagnostic testing, identify student capabilities and monitor student progress on a regular basis to ensure that goals are being met

  • Maintain accurate and complete student records  and complete all recordkeeping/ administrative responsibilities on time as required by law and GEG policies

  • Consult with appropriate professional staff (i.e. life coaches, neuropsychologist) regarding student’s educational Program

  • Establish and maintain orderly classroom behavior, administer discipline as appropriate

 Relationship with Students, Parents and Staff:

  • Establish and maintain open and positive lines of communication with students and parents concerning academics and behaviors; communicate with parents on student progress at regular intervals

  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with school  personnel

  • Uphold and enforce school rules and policies

Requirements include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education required; Master’s Degree preferred

  • CT State Certificate Required

  • Min. 2 years’ experience teaching students with mild to moderate learning differences, OR working with students on the autism spectrum, preferred

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
